Here we go for the final time this season.

After watching the 1st eleven give it their all in the match before, Wotton wanted to match their effort and commitment and keep a strong blue flag flying at the theatre of dreams.

Unfortunately the first half was one to forget with Bourton playing the stronger hockey and Wotton playing like they didn't know which end of their sticks to use.

We found ourselves 2 -0 down at half time, the first Bourton goal coming from a run through the midfield and our defence which the opposing player finished by rounding Joss Beeley. Their other goal was from a flick. The blue army nearly received some language of the same colour at this point but I managed to resist and only ruffled some feathers.

After the break or should I say after Tim/Alan had placed a rocket where no-one would ever want one, the team came to life, playing more of the hockey that we had been used to seeing this season

The blues first goal coming from an unlikely source as defender turned striker, Leo Murray-Davey, found himself in the D and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the near bottom corner. 1-2

The next didn't take long to follow as Wotton were creating chances with every attack and forcing short corner after short corner. A change in positioning saw Richard Goodwin and Benjy Wells swap allowing, Former to draw the defender in and then slip left to Benjy who finished into the far bottom corner.

Bourton were crumbling and it was long til the 3rd goal came. Intense Wotton pressure allowed Ben Eames to drift in from the left side and play a ball towards the D. Out of nowhere stretched a youthful Alan Hooper who got a vital touch at the very top of the D to send the ball past the Bourton keeper, stunning their whole team into silence. 3-2

The finally 10 minutes of the match saw wotton under some pressure themselves but with great defending from Matt Wong, Tim Saunderson, Seb Culpepper, Ben Eames and an impeccable Joss Beeley (with a great double save at the end) they were kept at bay.

Not for the first time this season the team has shown real grit and determination when it has mattered and battle on well. That just leaves me to say well done to everyone who has played, you have certainly made Alan and myself very proud of our achievements this season.

The futures bright…..the future Blue!!!
