Wotton 1 v Bristol Uni 3

LI 1-0 Bristol Uni III

With Bristol Uni two points ahead of Wotton, and a space at top of the table at stake, there was a lot of excitement around the Field of Dreams this morning.

The Uni pushed back first, but were immediately under pressure from the forward line of Lauren Leyland, Lauren Jones and Millie Mayer. Within the first 30 seconds Wotton were in possession and a cheeky bouncing shot from player of the match Elodie Sparrow put wotton ahead.

By the midway point of the first half, Bristol Uni had steadied, and begun to put Wotton in their half. However, they hadn’t counted on Olivia Green’s precision tackling, and time after time throughout the game she came away with the ball and put Wotton back in the attack.

The second half saw the first short corners of the game, with Jo York making a suitably casual save from a powerful Uni strike, while at the other end Wotton made some credible shots on goal. With ten minutes to go, Sara Erasmus sprinted ahead of the Uni defence, finding herself one on one with the goalkeeper but the shot was saved. Wotton kept the excitement high for the spectators in the dying minutes of the game, and the final whistle was met with cheers.

I believe that means we are now top of the league, but hopefully Eilidh Rogers will be able to clarify this for me.
