This being our first tournament of the season and having lost some of our more experienced players to Badgers, we were not sure what to expect.
Our first game was against Cirencester and you could tell we were nervous but our defense battled hard and it wasn't until the last minute that Cirencester broke through and scored a goal to win 1 - 0.
During our second game, against Worcester, we looked a lot more confident and some great team work with accurate passing and quick play up field allowed Philip Gunton to score 2 goals.
This helped our confidence but we had to play Cheltenham next. Once again our defense particularly Ed Law, Ellis Brewer, William Curtis and Sam Butcher battled really hard but a brief 2 minute period saw Cheltenham score 3 quick goals. Our defense battled on and no more goals were conceded but unfortunately we lost 3 - 0.
Despite this loss our spirits remained high despite the long gaps between each game. Devises were next and once again it was a very equal match. All the boys worked hard in defense once again, with Alex Gunton, Tom Cox, Eddie Wiffen, Jamie Hirst and Ben Fallows working hard.
Liam Baker as goalkeeper was outstanding and made several fantastic saves.
Unfortunately one shot snuck into our goal and Devises won 1 - 0.
Our last game was against Marlborough and despite a really long, hard afternoon the boys all battled really hard with several shots on goal narrowly missing. Solid goalkeeping again from Liam Baker helped to keep the final score to a 1 - 0 to Marlborough.
It was a great first festival, helped by the weather, where the boys improved game by game.
We must say a grateful thanks to Dan Jones for coming along as our umpire and Scott Curtis for organising the boys and ensuring all got an equal amount of game play. Thank-you.
