Lydia Poole grabbed two goals as Wotton Under-16 girls secured a comfortable 4-0 victory over East Gloucestershire at St Edward’s School, Cheltenham.
Poole scored in the first and third quarters as Wotton controlled possession and territory in a game that saw Freya Wallace and Francesca Barton – both reverse stick beauties – also on the scoresheet.
Coach Elaine Noone said: “It was a good team performance today and, what especially pleased me, was the transfers that we’d been working on came off. There was a lot of energy from the players today, getting to the ball quick and closing down the opposition.”
Wotton started on fire and were 2-0 up inside the first quarter when Francesca Benjamin put Poole clear before a short corner injected by player of the match Eliza Reynolds was moved right and then left for Wallace to strike home.
East Glos got their tails up towards the end of the second quarter but the defensive line of Sophie King, Megan Witham, captain Rowan Moss and goalkeeper Ella King kept them out.
Normal service was resumed in the second half with Niamh Keane making in-roads, supported by Darcie Armor, Charlotte Mandefield, Neev Gill, providing quality balls to the strikers.
Wallace weaved her way into the D and Poole steered the ball into the goal before opposition player of the match Barton took a pass from Keane and worked herself into space to smash the ball home.
