Newest 1s v Wotton 2s
On a surprisingly sunny afternoon the boys in blue, I mean red, travelled to Newent with a score to settle from the last game of the previous season.
Wotton started brightly creating a few chances but with the good home defense and a spritely attack the game was evenly matched.
Newest took the lead midway through the first half with an accurate reverse stick shot which arrowed into the bottom right corner from left of D. 1-0
Wotton were a bit shocked and tried to comeback to level but couldn’t find the allusive goal they needed. On the stroke of halftime Newent found the net again to the frustration of the Wotton boys. 2-0
Talk at halftime was to stop chatting to the umpires and play our own game.
Wotton started the second half and soon found themselves in the ascendancy, creating a few chance and a Flory of short corners, one which was converted directly from the top by Ryan Howarth. 2-1
With the Wotton lads forgetting the talk at halftime and still being ‘chirpy’ Wotton often found themselves a man down. Wotton gained a mother short corner which agonizingly came off the post from close range.
With time running out Wotton were caught on the break and punished with a blistering shot from the top of the D. 3-1
That was it……a frustrating game on the whole but we will be back next week to face Ross-on-Wye at home in search of our first league points.
