The u14 girls travelled to face Clifton Robinsons this afternoon where the unexpected sun had put paid to the Cliftonites love of showing off an obscure designs of Dry Robe or two.
Being a friendly, Wotton took a large squad of 17 players, comprised of a mixture of county level players, senior u14s and more junior girls new to the full pitch format.
From the push back, Clifton got into their stride and put us under quite a lot of pressure, however the girls rallied well and grew into game, realising they could compete on an even keel.
A good competitive match developed, with both sides having some clear cut chances forcing both keepers to make good saves to keep the scores level.
It was Wotton who broke the deadlock with a smart finish from Nina B, after a melee in the D brought about by a smart counterattack from the girls in red (we were in our change kit)
Maybe it was the heat or the size of the pitch or the amount of substitutions being made, but in the 3rd quarter Wotton switched off after a penalty corner, allowing Robbies to capitalise on one of a number of shots they had before Wotton could get back.
1-1 on the board and that is how this one would stay. Honours even. Spoils shared.
Overall a happy coach having watched the team put in a serious amount of effort and endeavour. #effortiseverything

A huge thanks to Cathy York for umpiring and Kate Bashford for providing the parental administrative support.
Finally thank you to all the parents who made the trip and vociferously supported the u14 girls red army deep in the Failand Ghetto.
We look forward to a long away trip to Devizes in the cup next Sunday 1400 PB, 1330 meet.
