The u10 girls travelled to a gloriously sunny Cheltenham this weekend with a large enough group to be able to field two teams (first time in an "away" tournament)
The decision was taken to evenly split the teams rather than have a strong squad and a developmental one - little did I know that this would affect both the squads for the entire afternoon as the other team managers in the tournament had very much done the opposite!
This meant that the Wotton Panthers had a difficult afternoon, and despite some dogged determination and hard work, were on the wrong end of their results. Despite this there were some encouraging debuts - Roo and Emily P stepped into the competitive side of hockey with enthusiasm and aplomb.
Meanwhile over on the blue pitch the Wotton Pumas were terrorising the opposition, winning every game bar one which ended in a draw. I did not have the privilege of seeing this, but Lee who took over their coaching for the day was full of praise and enthusiasm for the multiple goalscoring of Katie and Amelia, strong midfield work from Joss and a very fast improving Emily R.
We now look forward to the county finals on the 10th March where we hope to learn from one side of this weekend and continue the other! I will send out availability prompts today as I know there are some concerns around clashing events,
Thanks again for the superb effort from all Wotton players and the support from parents , this group continues to be a pleasure to be around - and I hope to wrap up this season with a couple of strong performances on the 10th and 24th of March.
To all Parents - dont forget the end of season awards event recently published on Pitchero - the vent is on the evening of Thursday the 4th April at Cattle Country and as is a good fun way to bookend the season - I look forward to seeing you there.
