The intrepid U8 wolf cubs travelled to Cheltenham for the last festival of the season.
We were able to field two teams and as it was the last one of the year I decided to treat it a bit like an unofficial final.
Wotton B played some really good hockey, and without some of the more dominant players in the team the other players really stepped up. Gavin Patterson and Charlie Hopking played their best games of the season taking charge of the midfield and showing some real class. The other player who really stepped up was the mighty Finlay Wallace, probably the smallest player on the pitch but with the strongest tackle. With extra help from Isla, Toby, Henry and Lucy Wotton B’s results were. W-2 D-1 & L-3
Wotton A is quite a collection of youngsters all with very familiar surnames! Austin, Brewer, Bryson, Edwards, Emms and Pullin they may only be have an average age of 6.3 years but don’t let this fool you! They have seen a lot of hockey and without exaggeration I looked up at one point to see a tomahawk shot hit the post only for the mid-air rebound to be neatly put to bed on the run!!! That doesn’t happen every time but they do “play without fear” (Next year’s motto?)
The kids really enjoyed the opportunity to play together again and managed W-5 D-1 L-0 (unofficial champs)
As pleasing as the performance was, it was great for Angie the GHA organiser to come up to me and pass on her compliments of the excellent on and off field behaviour of our boys teams this year.
