Wotton Wolf Cubs go undefeated
The U8’s travelled to Cheltenham for the GHA Festival for Wotton’s first outing at the U8 age group.
The kids arrived nice and early so that the assistant coaches’ Jacob and Benjamin (U10’s) could put them through their paces with a quick warm up before the day’s action. First up it was Lansdown Lions who put in a good performance but were unable to stop the Wotton strike force 1-0 Wotton
Next on the menu for the cubs was Cirencester B who couldn’t stop a marauding Scott Patterson in midfield from scoring a number of goals 5-0 Wotton
After getting a taste for Cirencester the cubs moved on to Cirencester A this time wining 4-0 with more goals from Scott, Roo, Matthew and Hannah.
Next up came local National league team Cheltenham. The cubs set up in a slightly more defensive way for this match as we expected a tough test, Wotton had more of the early play but Cheltenham managed to catch us on the break to score, Wotton battled on and managed to break back to bring the scores level ending the game in a draw. Shocked by the spirited Wotton performance Cheltenham were curious about the age of our midfield power House Scott Patterson his mother informed them he was 7 and would be back for more next year ;-)
The Final two games saw the cubs defeat a good Worcestershire side 2-1 with some great play from Emily and Amy which brought us back to Cirencester again for dessert, unfortunately by this time the younger members of the team (6 years) after nearly an hour of hockey were starting to tire and find interesting shapes in the clouds . Also after two defeats Cirencester had started to play to their strengths!! This ended with Hanna taking a nasty hit to the knee but fear not Benjamin stepped in for the last minute to sure the defence up and the Cubs ended the game 2-1 up.
A Good performance and good fun ended with a big bag of sweets.
