The last of 39 events in memory of late sister

I wouldn’t normally post up charitable/sponsorship requests but, for reasons that will become apparent if you read on, on this occasion I’m making an exception.

Vic Carney was one of several people instrumental in setting up the ladies section of the WUE HC back in 2005, and was its first captain for several years. A true leader both on and off the pitch, it is no exaggeration to say that the ladies section wouldn’t exist, at least in its current form, without her passion and energy. A near neighbour from our childhood days, I had the pleasure of being coach to her captain for the ladies team in their formative years. Vic now lives in Folkestone with her wife Helen (also an old Wottonian.)

Sadly Vic’s older sister Sarah Carney (also a KLB contemporary and friend to many of us still at the club) passed away in March 2015 aged 39 after battle with cholangiocarcinoma; leaving 2 daughters.
In memory of her sister, Vic is taking part in 39 events around the UK such as half marathons and swims; culminating in the London Marathon which in itself has been a long term ambition. Vic has been raising money for AMMF (www.ammf.org.uk) but has been granted a place at the Marathon by Martha’s Trust which raises money for people with profound disabilities in Kent.

Do read her inspirational story and donate if you can, helping ‘one of our own’ achieve her ambition in memory of her late sister.
