A brief update from around the club, dates for your diary and more…

Quiz Night – Sat 12th November at Wotton Town Hall, 1930 onwards
The return of this very popular social/fundraiser from last year.
• Its BYO at the Town Hall so bring your own drinks of choice!
• The dessert bar will also return so bring some extra $ as there will be a raffle too
• £10 per team of 5 , payable on the door; preferable to sort your teams yourselves but if you haven’t got a team turn up and we’ll sort it out.
See also, the Facebook ‘event’ page – look forward to seeing many of you there…

New Stash!!! AKA - Updated Kit offering…
After considering feedback from members, the committee have recently agreed to additional items of club branded kit being made available.
Taking into account member’s preferences to try on ‘in store’ AND to support local businesses; our club clothing range will continue to be supplied by Goose and Gander on Market Street, Wotton (under the Tolsey Clock)
New items include:
• Canterbury zip up showerproof jackets
• ¾ zip non-branded training tops with fleece lining
• Canterbury trackies
• Canterbury Mens playing shorts
• Non branded trackies
• Red away socks (see note below)

All of the above will be available in senior and junior sizes, include embroidered club badge, your initials and (on tops) ‘Wotton under Edge Hockey Club’ printed on reverse.
These items compliment the current range of club clothing which includes hoodies, baselayers, Canterbury playing socks, beanie hats, womens skorts and training shirts which are all still available.
All of the above items will be ‘stock’ so should have short lead times. Only the senior Canterbury playing shirts (which are made to order) have a longer lead time.

The full range will soon be available online and samples available in store; as soon as they are available I will send a separate email; that’s everyone’s Christmas shopping sorted then!

New Sponsored Away Kits for Mens, Ladies & Vixens:
The club has recently taken receipt of 2 new red mens change strips (sponsored by Goose and Gander) and a new red ladies change strip kindly sponsored by M J Hardwick, Lime Specialist and Traditional Builders (www.limemortars.org). So unlike at some clubs where members are asked to also purchase their own away kit; these change kits will be supplied by and remain the property of the club.

In return, however, and to stop the club having to keep buying new sets of red socks (which then ‘disappear’ from kit bags!) we are asking all players in senior XIs to buy their own red socks, just as they do the home ones. Our preferred sock is available from Goose and Gander on via the link on the website. Thanks

We are also delighted to announce the Courtyard Clinic (www.courtyardclinic.com) as shirt sponsor of an additional Vixens/Girls u14s kit,

We’d love to hear from other local businesses who’d like to become one of our club sponsors. Packages are available on request so if you know of a business who’d like to help, do contact a member of the committee.

National Knockout Competition Update
It was success for the Men’s 1s in Rd 1 of the Mens Trophy, beating City of Bath HC 5-1 at Wotton Community PARC in front of a good crowd. It’s a home draw in Rd2 versus Devizes HC on Sunday 13 Nov (1200pb) so do come and cheer them on…

The u18s gave a great account of themselves in the Boys Cup (given that several of their number were playing for the 1st XI that day!) but eventually lost 4-0 to Team Bath Buccs; they now move into the Plate competition, with an away draw against Plymouth Marjon on Sunday 6th November.

Do join me in wishing good luck to the Ladies 1s who enter a knockout competition for the first time this season. The ladies travel to Dart HC in Rd 1 of the Investec Vase this Sunday (30th Oct) – there is a supporters bus travelling so do contact Cathy York if you are interested.

Junior Tournament – Wotton Community PARC, Sunday 6th November
Members will recall the popularity of our ‘home’ junior tournaments. These offer a chance for ALL of our junior players to experience match play, including those who may not get selected for Glos HA tournaments at Cheltenham; not to mention our now legendary refreshments and hospitality! We are still looking for helpers to: manage teams, umpire, man the refreshment stall for an hour. If you can help, please contact Junior Co-ordinator Cathy York.

‘Top Gun’ Trophy
Scores on the doors in the senior leading goalscorers hunt thus far are as follows:
Lauren Leyland (L1) 10
Dave Chevin (M4) 9
Ryan Howarth (M1) 8
Victoria McCuaig (L2) 6
Greg Willcox (M3) 4
Ben Butter (M4), Naomi Culpepper (L1), Jas George (L1), Olivia Green (L3), Darren Bird-Pearce (M2), Sam Willcox (M2) all on 3 goals

Monthly Match Fee payments
There are still some Seniors/Badgers/Vixens who have paid their annual subs but not yet purchased the ‘product’ via Pitchero that sets up their monthly match fee payments. If this is you, please ensure you set this up before 31 Oct to remain eligible for selection. Any problems please refer to your usual team contact.

Other Dates for your Diary
Sat 10th Dec – Xmas Jumper Social, Wotton
Sat 4th Feb – Wine & Cheese Evening, Town Hall – Wotton
Sat 1st Apr – End of Season Dinner Dance & Awards, Venue TBC

With best wishes.
